Barneys Army was started in 2012 with a benefit game between the John Smit 15 and the Sharks to celebrate the amazing journey he had in Durban over a 15-year period from 1997-2011. This then became known as Barneys Army with the number 111 right on top of the logo representing the amount of Tests John played for South Africa.
Since then, Barneys Army has managed to raise funds and donate to those less fortunate. With this new Barneys Blend coffee John wants to promote the game of rugby in South Africa by donating a portion of the proceeds of every bag to the South African Rugby Legends Association. SARLA currently runs South Africa’s biggest rugby development program and takes the game of rugby to over 30 000 kids annually. Hopefully Barneys Blend can help increase that number.
